In 1866, the French artist and illustrator Gustave Dore (18321883), published a series of 241 wood engravings for a new deluxe edition of the 1843 French translation of the Vulgate Bible, popularly known as the Bible de Tours. This new edition was known as La Grande Bible de Tours and its illustrations were immensely successful. Jacob is regarded as a Patriarch of the Israelites. The Miraculous Draught of Fishes.After toiling all night long, the fishermen return empty handed. Jesus asks them to cast their nets once more, with a splendid catch as a result. Overwhelmed by this miracle, the men become disciples of Jesus. The engraver based the middle section of this depiction on a large triptych in Onze-Lieve-Vrouw over de Dijle in Mechelen (Belgium). Three plates were needed for this immense print.
