America Transformed: Richmond, Indiana, located on the original National Road near the Indiana-Ohio boundary, provides an example of a midwestern industrial town that was a center of government, commerce, finance, and education. Oriented with east at the top, this bird's-eye view places the White Water River and the railroad crossing in the foreground. The map's directory lists 29 industrial enterprises. Many local factories manufactured farm implements and processed agricultural produce. The largest companies produced threshing machines, grain drillers, and mowers, while smaller plants made crackers, baking powder, and linseed oil. Leon Pitor's name appears on a tablet hanging from a tree at the lower left of plate. According to Scaccia Scarafoni and Huelsen, Licinio's name appears nearby, but it is lacking in the present copy. "Lectori salutem ... / Venetiis M.D.LXVIII"--at lower left. A list of names keyed to the map is comprised of gates lettered A-T and buildings numbered 1-119. Oriented with east at top. Relief conveyed pictorially. The 3 component sheets of Getty copy are joined along vertical edges. "No. 48" appears in brown ink at top center of image. "1551" in pencil on verso at upper right.
