Acknowledges Mistake - Secretary of Agriculture Ezra Taft Benson adjusts his glasses today during Testimony before a Senate Civil Subcommittee looking into the Administration's Security Program. Acknowledging he made a Mistake in denying security clearance to Wolf Ladejinsky, Benson said his department's Security Program had been overhauled as a result of the affair. He termed the Mistake "Honest and Conscientious." Ladejinsky, a Russian-Born land reform specialist, was denied clearance by the agriculture department last January. September 27, 1955. Economist Professor Copland -- Today Sir Douglas Copland, Vice-Chancellor of the Australian National University and an economics adviser to several governments over the years, addressed a Top Management Conference of the Australian Institute of Management here in Sydney. His address, of which extracts are published here, proposes a joint attack by government, management and labor to work through a national committee on productivity to cope with defence and normal national development. Gaoled For Getting Secrets -- Undated stock picture of John Clarence, 27, clerk of no fixed address, who has goaled five years at the old Bailey, London, today December 22, for obtaining and recording official secrets. Clarence, who was once found in France in a bogus officer's uniform describing himself as "The Duke Of Clarence" offered his services to the soviet embassy for money, it was said in court. Mr. Justice Hilbery said today: "It is disturbing to find that whereas you were known to be actively engaged with the soviet embassy in 1952, and known to be an active member of the communist party, you were nonetheless able with complete ease to obtain employment in a military office in an area highly important to the defence of this country".
