This illustration of Alice  with the two sleepingqueens, the White Queen and the Red Queen, is from "Through the Looking-Glass and What Alice Found There" by Lewis Carroll (Charles Lutwidge Dodgson), who wrote this novel in 1871 as a sequel to "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland." Here Alice has put a royal crown on her head.

Charles I was king of England, Scotland, and Ireland from 1625 until his execution in 1649. He was a Stuart and the second son of James VI of Scotland. The illustration dates to 1882.
