This is what Alice saw once she went through the Looking Glass and into the Looking Glass room in Lewis Carroll's "Through the Looking Glass." Here are the Red Queen and the Red King. To the right is a White Pawn that has rolled over and has started kicking. Alice has just stepped through the mantle mirror in her house into another world, where she is in a sunny spring garden. The flowers can speak and there she meets the Red Queen and Red King, who are human-size.

She is astonished at the face he made. The White King was on the ground and not able to hear or see Alice, but then all changes after she picks him up, and also the White Queen.
