Unlike the majority of porcelain factories established on the Continent by royal or noble patrons, the Chelsea factory was founded by a silver-smith, designer,2 and entrepreneur, Nicholas Sprimont (Walloon, 1716-17713), who emigrated from Liège to London around 1742. While some of the silver made by Sprimont, or on which he collaborated, are among the most important works produced in England in the mid-eighteenth century,4 surviving works by him are rare, although he continued to work Chris Makrenos, Cigar Store Indian, c 1937 Cigar Store IndianSoviet Christmas toy on a black wooden background, retroA figurine from a monkey band, singer K trader, Jan Joachim, Miśnia (Meissen)Seated Woman, from Peoples of Russia series Figure; Designed by Pavel Kamensky (Russian, 1858-1922); Manufactured by Imperial Porcelain Manufactory (Russia); Russia; porcelain; 27 x 16.5 x 21.5 cm (10 5/8 x 6 1/2 x 8 7/16 in. )Decorative object.
