Resistance Woman and Officer She Saved Receive Decorations from The King -- Mrs. Odette Sansom and Captain Peter Churchill with Mrs. Sansom's three daughters outside Buckingham Palace as they left after receiving their decorations from the king. Mrs. Odette Sansom, 34 year old French woman who was awarded the George Cross for her work in the French Resistance movement, went to Buckingham Palace, London, to receive her decoration from king George at an Investiture. with her was her commanding officer in the Resistance, 37 year old Captain Peter Churchill, who went to receive the D.S.O. The Youngest Army In The World -- Introducing the Jones family. Their father is away on active service with the Royal Marines, and the sons are following in his footsteps. Left to right:- Stanley (age 13), Leslie (age 12) and Frank (age 9).The Royal Marines Volunteer Corps in probably the youngest "Army" in the world. It consists of sons of Royal Marines, their ages ranging from eight to thirteen. They are given military training, including the use of guns and rifles. They also have their own band. Each week they Parade at the Royal Marines Barracks Parade-ground at Plymouth. The boys do not necessarily join the Marines, but a good percent age of them do. June 4, 1941.

Earl Gowrie Distributes Leeks to Welsh Guards -- Brigadier General Earl Gowrie (Victoria Cross), wearing the emblem in his military cap, handing over the leek to an officer when the annual St. David's Day ceremony took place at Caterham (Surrey) barracks. Smarter Uniforms For London's Women Police The old and the new. Policewomen wearing the present and newly approved uniforms at Scotland Yard to-day (Tuesday). A new uniform London's women police has been approved by the Home Office and Scotland Yard, and will be seen by the public in November. The new tunic has padded shoulders, higher lapels and two breast pockets in the style of those worn by the American women police. The detachable belt has a buckle of new design. The skirt is of six-piece design instead of two-piece. July 23, 1946.

Russian Sailors Admire Her Majesty's Portrait -- The entire ship's company of the soviet cruiser "Sverdlov" - Here for the spithead coronation review - to-day went to a portsmouth cinema to see the coronation film "A Queen is crowned."As they entered the foyer of the cinema they saw a huge notice extending to them a cordial welcome and nearby stood a large portrait of her majesty the Queen. Rear-Admiral Viscount Mountbatten Appointed New Viceroy Of India.Rear-Admiral Viscount Mountbatten and his wife photographed outside their London home during a snowstorm - following the announcement of his new appointment as Viceroy of India.It is announced that Rear-Admiral Viscount Mountbatten of Burma has been appointed Viceroy and Governor-General of India in succession to Field-Marshal the -Right Hon. Viscount Wavell. Lord Louis Mountbatten is aged 46. He became Chief of Combined 0zi.rations during the war, and in 1943 he was appointed Supreme Allied Commander, South-East, Asia, and given the acting rank of Admiral. His duties took him frequently to New Delhi for conferences with the Viceroy and the Service staffs. On relinquishing his command, Admiral Mountbatten reverted to his rank of Rear-Admiral, and in December was appointed Rear-Admiral Commanding, First Cruiser Squadron, to take effect in April, 1947. The Malayan Emergency was a guerrilla war fought between Commonwealth armed forces and the Malayan National Liberation Army (MNLA), the military arm of the Malayan Communist Party, from 1948 to 1960. The Malayan Emergency was the colonial government's term for the conflict. The MNLA termed it the Anti-British National Liberation War. The rubber plantations and tin mining industries had pushed for the use of the term 'emergency' since their losses would not have been covered by Lloyd's insurers if it had been termed a 'war'. Despite the communists' defeat in 1960, communist leader Chin Peng renewed the insurgency in 1967, it would last until 1989, and became known as the Communist Insurgency War. Although Australian and British armed forces had fully withdrawn from Malaysia years earlier, the insurgency ultimately failed.

On the quay for the sub-sea service barracks, the sub-sea service (OZD) receives a banner as appreciation for the performance delivered in the Second World War (WW2). Best of course, which is awarded by Queen Juliana, 2 promotions: South China Sea 1941-'42 and Mediterranean Sea 1941-'42. The military Willems-order 4th class (MWO4) awarded in 1947 is also confirmed. After the DEPILÉ, a reception is held in the OZD building, where Queen Juliana receives a coat of arms and an allemantine of the OZD's commander.
