Musée du Louvre - Raphael Sanzio. The photography is suitable for Adolphe Braun's mid-19th century as a tool to make fabric pattern templates that produced his Elsässer company first drawing. The daughter of wealthy and cultured Bostonians, Mary Cabot Wheelwright was four years old when she posed for this portrait by the progressive American Realist artist Frank Duveneck. Modeling his portraits on the dramatically lit paintings of the seventeenth-century Spanish master Diego Velàzquez (1599-1660), Duveneck placed the brightly spotlit little girl against a simple dark backdrop, employing only the small doll and the rose on the floor as additional accents. Very much a child here, Mary Cabot Wheelwright ultimately devoted herself to a passionate interest in Navajo culture. Study of a Boy in a Blue Jacket. Artist: Benedetto Luti (Italian, Florence 1666-1724 Rome). Dimensions: 16 x 13 in. (40.6 x 33 cm). Date: 1717.Trained partly in Rome, where he settled in 1690, Luti enjoyed the patronage of Cosimo III de' Medici, Grand Duke of Tuscany. He was admitted to the Accademia di San Luca in 1694 and elected its principal in 1720. In addition to being a painter, draftsman, and pastelist, Luti was a connoisseur, collector, and dealer. His pastels fall into three groups: portraits, bearded male heads thought to represent apostles, and studies from the model. This work is the best of a number of versions of a study of a boy wearing a blue coat in which Luti conveys the disarming directness and sweetness of childhood.
