Procession of Troops and Civilians on Way to Dedication of Soldiers' National Cemetery, Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. Artist: Isaac G. Tyson (American, 1833-1913); Charles J. Tyson (American, 1838-1906). Dimensions: Image: 17.6 × 20.8 cm (6 15/16 × 8 3/16 in.). Former Attribution: Formerly attributed to Mathew B. Brady (American, born Ireland, 1823-1896 New York). Date: November 19, 1863.Isaac and Charles Tyson established a portrait gallery in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, in 1859 and were the only local photographers in residence at the time of the battle. This view down Baltimore Street shows the procession of soldiers and civilians that preceded the dedication of the Soldiers' National Cemetery, where President Abraham Lincoln gave his now-famous address on November 19, 1863. It is enticing to believe that the president may be hiding somewhere in the crowd. The short Gettysburg Address was one of the president's finest. Museum: Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, USA.
