To Be New Governor of Tasmania.London: Sir Ronald Cross, 54, Conservative M.P. for Ormskirk, was been appointed Governor of Tasmania in succession to Admiral Sir Hugh Binney, 67, whose extended term of five and a half years in office ends on June 30. The £3,000 a year appointment will mean a by-election in the Ormskirk Division. At the general Election in February Sir Ronald had a majority of 14,071, polling 28, 654 votes against his Socialist opponent, Mr. L.C. Edwards, who polled 14,5133 votes. Sir Ronald Cross was High Commissioner in Australia from 1941 to 1945 after being Minister of Economic Warfare in 1939-40 and Minister of Shipping in 1940-41. February 02, 1951.

Jules Moch elected Premier of France. Jules Salvador Moch (15 March 1893, in Paris - 1 August 1985, in Cabris, Alpes-Maritimes) was a French socialist politician. During World War II Moch was critical of the Vichy French government and was jailed but later was released. He joined and helped organise the Paris underground.
