Warner's Love Story has so many Good things to Commend it that it is a Pity it was not set back 20 years. In this day and age its morals, which concern the love affair of a recently widowed mother of two sons, seem slightly out-dated. As the widow, Barbara Stanwyck gives a smooth and credible Performance, although she appears rather Sophisticated for a Supposedly Sheltered Woman. As the dashing major, George Brent is Woodenish and Uninspiring. First - rate Support comes from Lucille Watson as the Covential mother and Eve Arden, the Staunch friend. Hollywood cannot resist the obvious Sentimental touches - a Christmas tree, and "Shining Night" are included. July 28, 1946.
