New Cunarder Launched by Princess Margaret - The posing bulk of the Carinthia slides down the ways after her launch by Princess Margaret today.In blustery weather, Princess Margaret today (Wednesday) launched the 22,000 tons Cunard liner Carinthia front the John Brown snipyards on Clydebank, Scotland.Despite the rain, the Princess insisted on walking down the side of the ship to see last-minute preparations for the launch.The liner, third of four new Cunarders for the Canadian service, will make her maiden voyage on June 27, 1956. 28,000-Ton Orsova Launched at Barrow: Two Giants in One Day: The new 28,000-ton Orient liner Orsova as she began her perfect glide down the slipway after being named at Vickers-Armstrongs yard, Barrow-in-Furness, to-day (Thursday). She was launched by Lady Anderson, wife of Sir Colin Anderson, Orient director. The Orsova, intended for the United Kingdom-Australia trade and expected to be ready for service early in 1954, will be without a mast. U.S. shipyards send damaged vessels back to sea workmen at a shipyard in the United States repair a jagged hole torn by a torpedo in the side of a United Nations vessel. The ship was returned to service with inn a short time. This is one of nine shipyards maintained by a single American shipbuilding company which has built or repaired 6,020 ships, aggregating 34,000,000 tons, since Dec. 7, 1941. September 23, 1943.

Dockyard Worker's Wipe Launched France's Latest Warship. -- France's first 35,000-ton battleship, the Richelieu, was launched at brest yesterday. The ceremony was performed by MME. Mons, wife of a dock yard worker and mother of ten children, who out the tri-colour ribbon to release the vessel. A Grooming In Gray -- Destiny as a troopship seemed to face Britain's 81,000-ton Luxury liner, Queen Mary (above) which on March 19 was being given a coat of admiralty gray paint, while a dredge worked alongside her, clearing away mud collected since the Queen was laid up when the war began last September. Some 770 new men arrived in New York March 18, to supplement crews on both the Queen Mary and the Mauretania and the report soon spread that these liners might transport Canadian or Australian soldiers. Princess Royal Launches Britain's Latest Battleship -- "Prince of Wales"sliding down the slips at Birkenhead after her launch by the Princess Royal this morning, May 3."Prince of "Ales", Britain's newest 35,000 ton battleships, was lunched by the Princess Royal from the river Mersey yards of Messrs. Cammel Laird Ltd. At Birkenhead. 40,000 people cheered as she slipped into the water after a faultless launch. She is to be the world's fastest battleship, with a speed of over 30 knots. Her horse power and speed are confidential and on figures are being issued. She carried ten fourteen inch guns in three turrets and a secondary armament of sixteen 5-1/4 inch guns. May 2, 1939. Largest Post-War Liner Launched -- The liner Orcades after being launched by Lady Morshead, goes down the slipways into the water at Harris-in-Furness today.The 31,000-ton liner Orcades, built for the orient Line by Vickers-Armstrong Limited, and which is the biggest merchant ship to be launched in any country since the end of the war, successfully went down the slipways at Barrow-in-Furness, Lance., today (Tuesday). The Launching ceremony was performed by Lady Morshead, wife of Lieut-Gen. Sir Leslie Morshead, manager of the Orient Line. The Orcades is intended for the Australian run, and will carry 1,500 passengers with cargo and mail. With a speed of 22 and a half knots the ship will cut the pre-war service schedule between England and Melbourne from 36 days to 28 days. October 14, 1947.

The picture Shows The "Orion" Going Down The Slipway After The Ceremony.Launched By Invisible Royal Hands -- When the new Orient liner "Orion" was launched at the Vickers-Armstrong works at Barrow-in-Durness, the customary preliminaries were performed by the Duke of Gloucester, who pressed a switch 12,000 miles away at Brisbane, Australia. The actual ceremony was broadcasted back to Australia by "an act of magic" as the Duke described it. December 01, 1934.
