It portrays an ancestor whose spiritual power infused the building. The unique tattoo pattern carved on his face identified him.

Monkey couple, the first playing a harp ca. 1350-1070 BC New Kingdom Here two monkeys sit one behind the other on a base with rounded ends. The monkey in front is slightly larger and grasps an indistinct object with vertical striations, perhaps representing a harp to judge from other such figures. The monkey in the rear holds on to the shoulders of the first monkey. A round form between their upper bodies could represent a baby monkey.Roughly carved limestone figures of monkeys have been found in considerable numbers in the settlements of Amarna and Deir el Medina, so from the late 18th Dynasty through the 20th. Others have been attributed to New Kingdom Memphis. They may play instruments, eat grapes or drink beer, drive chariots, or care for baby monkeys; in one example from Amarna a large group of monkeys rides a boat.. Belvedere torso from Rome, 1st century BC. A heavily muscled naked figure sits on a rock covered by a panther skin. His identity is much debated. The panther skin and the hole for the tail in his back suggests he is the old satyr Marsyas, a much-loved Hellenistic subject. The rock carries the signature of the statue's maker, Apollonias of Athens.

Door knocker ca. 1560-70 German With the widespread availability of brass, cheaper and easier to work than bronze, the middle classes could aspire to own artistically inventive household objects. Brass foundries were initially associated with the Netherlandish Meuse region, particularly the town of Dinant, prompting the designation dinanderie for such objects. Following the Sack of Dinant, Nuremberg became the industrys center, producing works for the open market. Cornelis de Witt (15 June 1623 20 August 1672) Dutch politician. member of the old Dutch patrician family De Witt. In 1650 he became burgomaster of Dordrecht and member of the States of Holland and West Friesland. He was afterwards appointed to the important post of ruwaard, who combined the functions of chief of police and prosecuting attorney. As a republican he opposed the House of Orange and, along with his brother Johan de Witt, was murdered by Orangists.

Relief fragments from the tomb of Neferu showing richly adorned attendants moving right to left ca. 2051-2030 B.C. Middle Kingdom Neferu was most likely the first queen of Nebhepetre Mentuhotep II, and may also have been his sister. Her plundered tomb, excavated by the Metropolitan Museum of Art between 1923 and 1931, lay outside the king's temple precinct at Deir el Bahri. It was visited as a shrine in the Eighteenth Dynasty, and at some point it was used as a quarry for the fine limestone covering the walls.The decoration of the funerary apartments consisted almost exclusively of ritual scenes and depictions of sacred objects deriving from local Upper Egyptian iconography. The carving of Neferus surviving reliefs has a captivating otherworldliness, although it is varied in quality. The extenuated proportions of the figures, and the elaborate patterns contrasting with smooth planes, represent the height of the Eleventh Dynasty archaic style. Athlete or hero ('Kritian Boy'). From Athenian Acropolis, 480-470 BC. A naked youth stands with the weight shifted more on to one leg - for the first time in a statue. The more natural pose and serious expression are marks of the revolutionary style of the period 480-450 BC. The statue was probably dedicated to Athena.
