Portraits of Ursula Ligsalz, Hans Schönermark, and Regina von Lamparter von Greiffenstein (). While small portraits in wood were often made as casting models for bronze medals, they also functioned as autonomous, desirable bibelots. The largest of these three examples portrays Ursula Ligsalz-Senffl, the second wife of a Munich burgomaster, Sebastian Ligsalz. The couple wed in 1522.

Date: 629-630.In 628-29 the Byzantine emperor Herakleios (r. 610-41) successfully ended a long, costly war with Persia and regained Jerusalem, Egypt, and other Byzantine territory. Silver stamps dating to 613-29/30 on the reverse of these masterpieces place their manufacture in Herakleios's reign. The biblical figures on the plates wear the costume of the early Byzantine court, suggesting to the viewer that, like Saul and David, the Byzantine emperor was a ruler chosen by God. Elaborate dishes used for display at banquets were common in the late Roman and early Byzantine world; generally decorated with classical themes, these objects conveyed wealth, social status, and learning. Louis XIV in Allegorical Armor 17th century Michel Molart Designed in 1672, this bronze relief shows Louis XIV wearing a fanciful helmet crowned with the chariot of Apollo, the sun god to whom the king likened himself. The chariot drags a chained prisoner, symbolic of the German towns captured by Louis XIV's armies during the first of his victorious campaigns against the Dutch. Cupid before Jupiter amid Clouds late 17th century Netherlandish Unlike most of the other stones discussed here, this opaque blue-green mineral, a uranium-bearing aragonite, is soft and was easily worked to encourage generously rounded shapes. The hearty style lent itself to the embellishment of rich domestic furnishings such as cabinets. The Triumph of Love over Time ca. 1780-90 Clockmaker: Jean-Baptiste Lepaute This clock illustrates the triumph of love over time. The young god of love points to the minutes with his arrow while holding a blazing torch to the celestial globe that contains two revolving rings between its hemispheres, one with the minutes (5-10) and the other with the hours (I-XII). Chronos, or Father Time, sits dejectedly at the right. The figures, modeled by Augustin Pajou (1730-1809), were taken from a more complex design for a clock made by the royal sculptor in 1775 for the prince de Condé and were probably cast by Étienne Martincourt (active 1762-1800). The subject of the relief on the pedestal is a sacrifice to Eros. At this time, the workshop of the Lepaute family consisted of Jean-Baptiste (1727-1802), named horologer du roi in 1775; Pierre, called Henry Lepaute (1749-1806); and Pierre-Bazile, called Sully-Lepaute (1750-1843).
