Limestone statue of Artemis Bendis. Culture: Cypriot. Dimensions: 30 3/4 x 12 3/4 x 7 1/4 in. (78.1 x 32.4 x 18.4 cm). Date: ca. 3rd century B.C..The head and the body come from different statues. Bendis was a goddess of the hunt, similar to Artemis. Her worship originated in Thrace, a rugged mountainous region in what is today Bulgaria, but became fairly widespread throughout the Greek world by the Hellenistic period. She wears Oriental dress, with a soft leather Phrygian cap and a long-sleeved tunic and trousers. Museum: Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, USA.

One of five marble female statues at the back of the Loggia della Signoria, Florence, Italy. This one is identified as Salonina Matidia, Emperor Trajan's niece. The sculptures were discovered in Rome in 1541, and were housed in the Medici villa at Rome since 1584. They were brought to the Loggia della Signoria by Pietro Leopoldo in 1789 and all underwent extensive modern restoration.
