The body of nurse Edith Cavell is returned to Britain in 1919, after the first world War and a state funeral was held at Westminster Abbey. On 19 May 1919, her body was reburied at the east side of Norwich Cathedral. Edith Louisa Cavell (1865 12 October 1915) was a British nurse. She is celebrated for saving the lives of soldiers from both sides without distinction and in helping some 200 Allied soldiers escape from German-occupied Belgium during World War I, for which she was arrested. She was subsequently court-martialled, found guilty of treason and sentenced to death. Despite international pressure for mercy, she was shot by a German firing squad. Her execution received worldwide condemnation and extensive press coverage.

Has Anybody Here Seen Kelly. Yeah! That's "Kelly" sittin' up there on the aft gun barrel. "H.E. (High Explosive) Kelly" is the salty mascot of a Coast Guard-Manned invasion transport now helping to kick the daylights out of the Japs in the far Pacific. Born on an 83-footer in the Atlantic, "Kelly" has served on two oceans and only been ashore twice in his life - on the docks of Honolulu and on the Battle-scarred beach of Eniwetok. He's down on the ship's muster roll as a gunner's mate second class, promoted two jumps for his exceptional barking as Saipan. Kelly's closest chum and bunkmate is Coast Guardsman John Sheridan, Chief Boatswain's mate of 34 74th Street, Woodcliff, N.J.

The giant, jagged-edge iceberg in the background is typical of those which drift aimlessly through the northern seas to menace passenger and freight ships. Since the Titanic crashed into an iceberg in 1912 and went down with a loss of 1517 lives, the Coast Guard has been charged with the responsibility of combatting the icy mountains.
