Reproduction of the "Great S-spiral frieze" fresco. Culture: Mycenaean. Dimensions: Overall: 36 x 26 1/2 in. (91.4 x 67.3 cm). Date: ca. 1400-1200 B.C..Excavated 1884 west of the Great Forecourt of the Tiryns palace.Ornamental spiral friezes have a long history in Minoan art. The version seen here with alternating up-and-down spirals and fan-shaped papyrus lotus blossoms became the favored ornate band frieze used to decorate most of the Mycenaean palaces. It has been suggested that the wide distribution of such a complicated pattern supports the idea of a traveling guild of fresco painters operating on the Mycenaean mainland. E. Gillieron, pere was hired in 1910-1912 by the Germans excavating at Tiryns to assist with the reconstruction of the many fresco fragments found at the site. Photo album from an unknown Dutch family with recordings of Suriname, Europe and Dutch East Indies. Photo album in linen folder with colorful geometric patterns on front and rear plat. The band back is stained with a yellow cord with a wooden bead at the end. The album has 24 cardboard sheets separated by pergamine sheets. Then 126 photos have been stuck, 3 photos were found separately in the album. The album is part of a series of three associated family albums: RP-F-F01202, RP-F-F01203 and RP-F-F01204. Most of the photos in the present album have a handwritten, Dutch-language caption and are generally made by amateur photographers. In the album there are some prints that are identical to those in album RP-F-F01202 and RP-F-F01204. Central figure in the album is an unknown woman who (presumably) also made the captions. She regularly refers to himself, such as with photo RP-F-F01203-CM "how I looked in 1917". It appears from the photos except in the Netherlands, including in Suriname a

The design is made up of vertical scrolls of pearls with circles, separated by vertical undulating garlands of dark reddish-brown color with stylized leaves of light tan color over a light tan ground. The circles are colored with orange, purple and pink, and the pearls are colored with white.
