World Trade Union Conference Meets In London Sir Walter Citrine, general secretary of the British Trades Union Congress, takes notes during the preliminary meeting February 5, 1945, the day before the opening session of the conference. Delegates of trade union organizations representing nearly 50,000,000 workers of more than 40 nations opened a two week conference in London February 6, 1945. This World Trade Union Conference, meeting at the invitation of the British Trades Union Congress, centered its discussions on five main points 1) Furtherance of the allied war effort, 2) The attitude of trade unions on peace settlements, 3) The Basis for a new world trade union federation, 4) Immediate trade union demands for the postwar period, 5) Problems of postwar reconstruction.
