Nats are spirits worshipped in Burma in conjunction with Buddhism. They are divided between the 37 Great Nats and all the rest (i.e., spirits of trees, water, etc). Almost all of the 37 Great Nats were human beings who met violent deaths. Construction of the Shwezigon Pagoda began during the reign of King Anawratha (r. 1044 -1077) and was completed during the reign of King Kyanzittha, in 1102. Bagan, formerly Pagan, was mainly built between the 11th century and 13th century. Formally titled Arimaddanapura or Arimaddana (the City of the Enemy Crusher) and also known as Tambadipa (the Land of Copper) or Tassadessa (the Parched Land), it was the capital of several ancient kingdoms in Burma.

Tamzhing / Tamshing Lhundrup Monastery was built in 1501 by Bhutanese saint Pema Lingpa (1450-1521) and is a temple complex in Bumthang District, central Bhutan. Tamzhing Monastery is the most important Nyingma gompa in Bhutan, a Tibetan Buddhist ecclesiastical place of learning that is a mix of a fortification, a vihara (monastery) and a university.

Burma / Myanmar: A traditional Burmese puppet (Yoke the) on sale, Bogyoke Aung San Market, Yangon (Rangoon). Yoke the (lit. miniatures) is the Burmese name for marionette puppetry. Although the term can be used for marionettery in general, its usage usually refers to the local form of string puppetry. Like most of Burmese refined art, Yoke the performances originated from Royal patronage and were gradually adapted for the wider populace. Yoke the are almost always performed in operas.

T. Enami (Enami Nobukuni, 1859 - 1929) was the trade name of a celebrated Meiji period photographer. The T. of his trade name is thought to have stood for Toshi, though he never spelled it out on any personal or business document. Born in Edo (now Tokyo) during the Bakumatsu era, Enami was first a student of, and then an assistant to the well known photographer and collotypist, Ogawa Kazumasa. Enami relocated to Yokohama, and opened a studio on Benten-dori (Benten Street) in 1892. Just a few doors away from him was the studio of the already well known Tamamura Kozaburo. He and Enami would work together on at least three related projects over the years. Enami became quietly unique as the only photographer of that period known to work in all popular formats, including the production of large-format photographs compiled into what are commonly called 'Yokohama Albums'. Enami went on to become Japan's most prolific photographer of small-format images such as the stereoview and glass lantern
