The caption for this illustration reads: Doge courteous pushed the curtain for the entrance to the side. The maiden here is Prince Marko's bride, and one of the court officials is making way for her. In history, Marko was a Serbian king who ruled from 1371 to 1395. The illustration is from a 1921 book on Serbian myths and legends.
