Weapon porcelain with email colors.Charger ca. 1745 Meissen Manufactory German This large dish and another acquired with it were most likely produced as part of an extensive dinner service, although the service has not yet been identified. Their ornithological decoration suggests a date of manufacture in the mid- to late 1740s. In 1745 the Meissen factory acquired the first volume of Eleazer Albin's "Natural History of Birds," and the decoration on a number of vases and other wares produced shortly thereafter was based on Albin's prints. The accuracy and specificity of the birds portrayed on these wares set them apart from the much less detailed and more generic birds on porcelain produced in the following decades. The skill of the Meissen painters is also reflected in the rendering of the insects on the molded basket work pattern executed in low relief on the rim.. Charger. German, Meissen. ca. 1745. China, Jiangxi province, Jingdezhen kilns, Qing dynasty (1644-1911), Kangxi mark and reign (1662-1722). Porcelain with famille-verte overglaze enamel decoration; diameter: 20.5 cm (8 1/16 in.). Among the greatest achievements of early Qing porcelain are table wares and display objects decorated with polychrome painting like this pair of dishes. Featuring birds perched in peach trees, the dishes are related to the famous birthday set commissioned for the Kangxi emperors sixtieth birthday in 1713. These pieces are more inventive than those in the 1713 set, however, since the unframed ornament is allowed to continue unbroken from the outer to inner surfaces and back out again, thus transforming each vessel into a three-dimensional canvas.Plate with green and black piping interrupted by an orange rectangle whose flower branches hang, Wilkinson Ltd, c. 1930 Plate of yellow earthenware with a green and a black trim along the edge, interrupted in one place by an orange rectangle, of which flower branches hang.
