Stephen Messenger spoke about the legacy of MLK Jr. The 2024 theme for the observance was Remember! Celebrate! Act! A Day On, Not A Day Off! After Messenger gave his presentation, a video of one of Kings most famous speeches, Ive Been to the Mountaintop, was played for the observance attendees.

Ocean Springs, MS, May 18, 2015 - Official signage and marker at Fort Maureas Park, Ocean Springs, Mississippi. perfected in 1699 under the direction of French explorer Pierre Le Moyne d'Ibperville, Fort Maureas became the capital of Louisiana (New France) before the capital was moved to New Orleans, Louisiana in 1722. Fort Maureas was abandoned in 1702 and was eventually destroyed by fire in 1719. A replica of the original wooden fort was constructed at the original site in Ocean Springs in 1981, but Hurricane Katrina destroyed the replica in 2005. The site of the original Fort Maureas has been restored as a ark (including a playground, stage and pavilion) with Public Assistance from FEMA.
