When Daniel Huntington made this drawing, he was a highly regarded painter in New Yorks cultural world. Portraiture was his dominant output, but here his technical expertise as a draftsman is evident. Skeleton Study is based on the figure of a dancing male faun from a Hellenistic sculpture.
