Aviation in Britain Before the First World War A good view of British Army Aircraft I without the engine and with some sailors moving it. The seat for pilot and the control column can be clearly seen in the centre of the aircraft. Workshops and a horse drawn caravan can be seen in the background. Cody began building the British Army Aircraft I in 1907 with the design similar to the kites and glider that he had successfully flown. It had twin propellers, chain driven by a single 50 hp Antoinette engine, the propellers were situated behind the leading edge of and between the upper and lower wings. When he had finished building the aircraft Cody carried out an extensive period of tests to the aircraft often involving hops off the ground. Throughout this period of testing there was intense public and press interest with Cody often being ridiculed for his apparent lack of progress in comparison with foreign pilots and designers particularly the Wright brothers who were touring Europe at tha

At the turn of the 20th century, the vast majority of Siamese were rice farmers who lived and worked along waterways. Fishermen, too, lived close to or on the rivers and canals. Every household had a boat, an estimated 600,000 of which navigated the canals and rivers of Bangkok. During the reign of King Chulalongkorn (1868 1910), many irrigation projects were ordered, the first of which was the Rangsit Canal in 1890.

A Bumper Wac, a combination the V-2 rocket with a WAC Corporal upper stage, awaits launch on July 24, 1950. It was the eighth in the Bumper Project and the vehicle reached the altitude of 393 kilometers. The Bumper was built by the German Rocket experts at the White Sands Proving Ground in New Mexico. In 1950, the last two Bumper launches took place in Florida, at the Long Range Proving Ground, located at Cape Canaveral.

The First Aerodrome in the world - Port Aviation near Paris, France 1909

This illustration dates to the 1920s. Its caption reads: Bridging the Atlantic by Airship and Aeroplane. This chart graphically shows the course of the first airplanes and airships which crossed the Atlantic. The U.S. Navy seaplane NC-4 was first to make the flight, May 16-27, 1919, making a stop at the Azores. The first non-stop flight was made in a British biplane, June 14-15, 1919. The first airship flight was made by the British dirigible R-34, which made a round-trip flight in July 1919.
