KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, FLA. - KSC employees stop at display tables set up in a tent near the Operations and Checkout Building for KSCs annual Environmental and Energy Awareness Week, held April 20-22. The slogan for this years event was “Today's Conservation Defines Tomorrow's Future.” Presentations included Chemistry Safety, Cost-Effective Solar Applications, Non-Native Invasive Plant Identification and Control, Energy Efficient Lighting Systems, and Historical Changes in KSCs Ecosystems.

In the parking lot of the Vehicle Assembly Building at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida, employees turn in used household material for recycling as part of America Recycles Day (ARD). The annual event is a nationally recognized initiative dedicated to promoting recycling in the United States. This year, KSC is partnered with Goodwill Industries and several other local organizations to receive donation material from employees such as gently used household items, personal electronic waste, greeting cards and serviceable eyeglasses.

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. -- NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida hosts a Sustainability Fair in observance of Earth Day. The fair was held adjacent to the Pathfinder Fitness Trail across the street from the 525-foot-tall Vehicle Assembly Building in Launch Complex 39.Kennedy Earth Day events included booths by a dozen sustainable companies and environmental organizations, displays on organic gardening, recycling, sustainable materials, alternative fuels and wildlife, and test-drives of several alternative-fuel vehicles. In keeping with the national theme, "Green Cities," the fair provided employees with the opportunity to learn how to do their parts in securing a healthy and sustainable future for their cities and the planet. The space center's sustainability objective is to "promote, maintain and pioneer green practices in all aspects of our mission, striving to be an agency leader in everything we do."

America Recycles Day is a nationally recognized initiative dedicated to promoting recycling in the United States. Kennedy partnered with several organizations in order to donate as many of the items as possible to those who could use them the most in the Space Coast community.
