Saunders, SES, the program executive officer for the Armys Program Executive Office for Simulation, Training and Instrumentation (PEO STRI), administers the federal oath of office to students selected for Cohort 2 of the PEO STRI Acquisition Academy Apprentice Program (A3P) during a swearing-in ceremony, Jan. 9. Cohort 2 is scheduled for 11 weeks and consists of more than 400 hours of both hands-on and online computer-based learning modules. A total of 23 students are registered for Cohort 2, including logistics management specialists, operations researchers, management analysts, budget analysts, financial specialists, computer scientists, electrical engineers, and computer engineers. Girls Night In was held at Goddard on Nov 4-5, 2016. This is a pilot program which reinvigorates,inspires, and engages high school girls who may be struggling or not fully engaged in STEM (Science, Technology Engineering and Math) education. The program allowed NASA women toshare and demonstrate the work they do, provide the girls an opportunity to completely immerse themselves in Goddard science, technology, engineering and math as well as providethem activities that will challenge and promote knowledge and discovery. Goddard invites other NASA centers tolearn from this pilot program and work towards a simultaneous multicenter event in the future. NASA Administrator, Charles Bolden and Lockheed Martin CEO, Marillyn Hewson announced the winner of the Exploration Design Challenge at the USA Science and Engineering Festival on April 25, 2014. The goal of the challenge was for students to research and design ways to protect astronauts from space radiation. The winning team's design will be built and flown aboard the Orion/EFT-1. Cape Canaveral, Fla. -- Students and teachers from across the nation gathered for a photo opportunity during closing events of the NASA Explorer Schools (NES) symposium. During the NES gathering, students presented their investigation project to their peers, scientists, engineers and education specialists. About 60 fourth- through 12-grade students nationwide are at the center May 4-7 participating in tours of processing and launch facilities and the U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame, as well as several educational activities and a career panel question-and-answer session. About 30 teachers will receive professional development opportunities during the symposium. The participants were competitively selected after they completed an original investigation focused on existing NASA missions or research interests.

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. - The winning students and their teachers of the 2014 DuPont Challenge Science Essay Competition show off their awards after a ceremony at the Operations and Support Building II at Kennedy Space Center in Florida. Center Director Bob Cabana is in the middle. The challenge, now in its 28th year, reaches out to students from grades seven through 12 from all 50 states and Canada. More than 200,000 students entered the competition. The DuPont Challenge aims to inspire students to excel and achieve in scientific writing and pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics STEM. The challenge honors space shuttle Challenger's STS-51L crew members who gave their lives while furthering the cause of exploration and discovery.

NASA senior staff members from John C. Stennis Space Center traveled to Children's Hospital in New Orleans on Feb. 4 for a morning of educational outreach, offering interactive demonstrations and activities for children. Staff members offered cryogenic demonstrations, informative and interactive exhibits and a chance for children to take photos 'wearing' a space suit. Cape Canaveral, Fla. -- Students and teachers from across the nation gathered for a photo opportunity during closing events of the NASA Explorer Schools (NES) symposium. During the NES gathering, students presented their investigation project to their peers, scientists, engineers and education specialists. About 60 fourth- through 12-grade students nationwide are at the center May 4-7 participating in tours of processing and launch facilities and the U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame, as well as several educational activities and a career panel question-and-answer session. About 30 teachers will receive professional development opportunities during the symposium. The participants were competitively selected after they completed an original investigation focused on existing NASA missions or research interests.
