Bas-reliefs from the Petit Temple of Koum Omboû (Ombos), depicting symbolic coiffures and additional reliefs from the Selseleh caves. The work spans the years 1809 to 1828 and was published in Paris by Impr. impériale. The image measures 70 x 51 cm and highlights elements from Egyptian history, including gods and crows, within the context of the extinct city of Ombos and the Silsila area in Egypt

After an initial stay in Cairo, the two friends hired a boat to take them up the Nile as far as the second cataract, after which they descended the river at leisure, exploring the archaeological sites along its banks. In July 1850 they left Egypt for Palestine, Turkey, and Greece before they parted in Italy the following April. Pictured here is a manuscript drawn on papyrus of hieroglyphs and art found in an ancient Egyptian tomb in Thebes, with its many rock-cut tombs, in southern Egypt. This illustration dates to 1903 and appeared in the book History of Egypt by French Egyptologist Gaston Maspero. It brings together many of the scenes found in the tomb. Among these are the god of the underworld Osiris (his skin color green, symbolizing rebirth) sitting at left. In front are the four sons of Horus (Horus was Osiris' son). The god of writing Thoth is inscribing on a a rectabgular piece of papyrus. The scales to judge the deceased follow.
