A broken portion of John Day Lock and Dams upstream navigation lock gate has slowed river traffic through that portion of the Columbia River. U.S. Army Corps technicians found the damage to a lower guide wheel July 25, 2022, and began repairs immediately, while maintaining lock operations, limiting the impact on the passage of commercial and recreational vessels.John Day Lock & Dam is located 216 miles upriver from the mouth of the Columbia River near the city of Rufus, Ore.Dedicated in 1968, construction of John Day Lock & Dam was completed in 1971. The project, which consists of a navigation lock, spillway, powerhouse and fish passage facilities, is authorized for navigation and hydroelectric power generation. Various recreational facilities are provided along Lake Umatilla and the John Day River.

Personnel in support of Joint Task Force-Red Hill (JTF-RH) begin the process of residual fuel removal from the Red Hill Bulk Fuel Storage Facility Jan. 15, 2024, Halawa, Hawaii. This follows the successful gravity defueling operation completed on December 16, 2023, where over 104 million gallons of fuel were safely removed. Approximately 64,000 gallons of remaining fuel in the facility pipelines will now be addressed by JTF-RH, with an estimated 60,000 gallons set to be removed through a careful process, expected to conclude by the end of March. The newly formed Navy Closure Task Force-Red Hill (NCTF-RH) is now integrating with JTF-RH and will assume responsibility for the facility's closure, including the removal of the final 4,000 gallons of fuel. JTF-RH and NCTF-RH are committed to working with regulators and government stakeholders to ensure Red Hill is defueled safely, expeditiously, and in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. -  In the Launch Pad 39A flame trench at NASA's Kennedy Space Center, inspectors test the repairs on the wall.  Workers sprayed a heat-resistant concrete called Fondue Fyre into steel grid structures, welded to the wall of the flame trench. Fondue Fyre was developed during NASA's Apollo lunar program.  Damage to the trench occurred during the launch of space shuttle Discovery on the STS-124 mission.  A 75-foot by 20-foot section of the east wall was destroyed and debris scattered as far as the pad perimeter fence.  Repairs being completed before the targeted Oct. 8 launch of Atlantis on the NASA Hubble Space Telescope servicing mission.

Contractors will place 337 modular units to form ten large and 20 small classrooms. Besides the classrooms, the campus will include three restrooms, one administration building, one learning center, and one combination dining and food service center. As of Jan. 8, 2024, 300 units are on site and ready for placement.The modular school is a temporary replacement for the King Kamehameha III Elementary School, which served the students of Lahaina since 1913.
