Panel 1296 Before becoming sultan in 1296, the Mamluk Husam al-Din Lajin spent a year in hiding at the dilapidated Ibn Tulun Mosque in Cairo. He vowed to renovate the mosque someday, and an enormous minbar was the result. It was dismantled in the late 19th century and dispersed in several museum collections, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art. A copy based on a traveler's drawing now stands in the mosque.. Kiyevskaya is a station on the Arbatsko-Pokrovskaya line of the Moscow Metro. Opened in 1953, it is lavishly decorated in the quasi-baroque style that predominated in the early 1950s. The square pylons are faced with white Ural marble and elaborately patterned ceramic tile and the plastered ceiling is decorated with a series of frescoes by various artists depicting life in Ukraine. A large mosaic at the end of the platform commemorates the 300th anniversary of the reunification of Russia and Ukraine. The architects were L. V. Lile, V. A. Litvinov, M. F. Markovsky, and V. M. Dobrokovsky.

(14.3 x 83 x 26.8 cm), Wood, lacquer, gold leaf (lai rod nam) technique, Thailand, 19th century, Though the technique of combining gold and black lacquer was developed in China, it acquired distinctively Thai features during the Bangkok period (1782-present). Its appearance often resembled the complex mural paintings that adorned Thai temple walls, as well as temple and palace doors, windows, and furniture. The classic Bangkok style incorporated figural elementsas seen in the kneeling attendant figures hereinto densely patterned designs of flowers, trees, and stylized foliage.
