HorologyEight-Day Tall Case Clock with Musical Movement 1790-95 Movement by Daniel Burnap This tall clock by Daniel Burnap possesses a musical that plays one of six tunes every three hours after the hour is struck on a large chime bell. The brass clock dial is expertly engraved with rococo style script, scrolls, and raffles. The case maintains period features such as neoclassical pilasters, a pagoda pediment with a pierced fret, and gold-painted flame finials indicative of popular eighteenth century tastes in the Connecticut River Valley. Daniel Burnap operated as a clockmaker, watch repairer, instrument maker, silversmith, and brass founder near Bissells Tavern in East Windsor, Connecticut. The musical brass movement bears Burnaps signature traits, most notably the count-wheel strike system and dead-beat escapement. These features may be linked to Burnaps time working under English-trained, master clockmaker Thomas Harland (1735-1807) who migrated from London in 1773 and introduced EnglishOK, baked with the Pomian coat of arms; 3 18th century (1750-00-00-1775-00-00);Pocket watch with white enamel dial and bivalve case with windings in dial, pocket watch watch movement measuring instrument brass silver steel glass enamel, Pocket watch with white enamel flat face with Arabic numerals In bivalve case with convex glass flat back and flat edge with continuous motif. Unknown about 1864-1870 Jewelry was seen as a display of wealth and fashion in the Victorian era, just as it is today. Therefore, its not surprising that upper-class Victorian photocollagists created ornate images of jewelry on the pages of their albums, inserting photographs in place of precious stones. Ones sweetheart, a dear friend, or a familiar couple might fill the center of a pendant. From the earliest days of photography, upper-class Victorian women also wore actual jewelrysuch as lockets, pendants, and broochesthat incorporated photographs. In this way, a woman could keep a concealed or visible image of her loved one close to her heart, whether that person was still living or had passed away. Carolyn Peter, J.
