Madame Arthur Fontaine (Marie Escudier, born 1865) 1901 Odilon Redon French Marie Escudier Fontaine was the wife of a wealthy Parisian industrialist and art patron whose circle of friends included a number of writers, musicians, and artists, among them André Gide, Claude Debussy, and Vuillard, who twice painted her portrait. Redon executed this likeness, one of his finest and most finished pastels, when the Fontaines came to visit him and his wife at the seaside resort of Saint-Georges-de-Didonne on the southwest coast of France in September 1901. Costumed Woman with Vegetables mid-19th century Monogrammist M French This elegant, carefully rendered watercolor has persistently puzzled scholars, who first associated it with the work of a Franco-Spanish artist but have now come to recognize its nineteenth-century British provenance. The monogram at the bottom right bears some resemblance to that of the English artist John Everett Millais, but as the drawing shares no stylistic similarities with Millaiss work, it seems more likely that the monogram was added later, either in error or as a deliberate deception.. Violette Heymann, 1910. Odilon Redon (French, 1840-1916). Pastel; unframed: 72 x 92 cm (28 3/8 x 36 1/4 in.). Although he was known early in his career for works primarily in black and white, such as charcoal drawings and lithographs, Odilon Redon turned to more colorful media, including pastel, later on. In particular, he focused on commissioned pastel portraits of women with flowers, such as this one. Here, the young niece of the Parisian collector Marcel Kapferer appears alongside colorful blossoms as she looks forward, focused as if in the dreamlike state evoked by her surroundings.

Moritz von Schwind (1804-1871) was an Austrian painter, born in Vienna. Schwind's genius was lyricalhe drew inspiration from chivalry, folklore, and the songs of the people. Schwind died in Pöcking in Bavaria, and was buried in the Alter Südfriedhof in Munich.
