ISS023-E-020986 (9 April 2010) --- NASA astronaut Rick Mastracchio, STS-131 mission specialist, participates in the mission's first session of extravehicular activity (EVA) as construction and maintenance continue on the International Space Station. During the six-hour, 27-minute spacewalk, Mastracchio and astronaut Clayton Anderson (out of frame), mission specialist, helped move a new 1,700-pound ammonia tank from space shuttle Discoverys cargo bay to a temporary parking place on the station, retrieved an experiment from the Japanese Kibo Laboratory exposed facility and replaced a Rate Gyro Assembly on one of the truss segments.

ISS017-E-010976 (10 July 2008) --- Attired in a blue thermal undergarment that complements the Russian Orlan spacesuit, Russian Federal Space Agency cosmonaut Oleg Kononenko, Expedition 17 flight engineer, holds a canister in the Pirs Docking Compartment of the International Space Station. The canister contains the pyrotechnic bolt retrieved from the Soyuz TMA-12 spacecraft during the spacewalk on July 10.

JSC2002-E-40332 (20 September 2002) --- Astronaut Soichi Noguchi, STS-114 mission specialist, wears a training version of the Extravehicular Mobility Unit (EMU) spacesuit during an underwater simulation of extravehicular activity (EVA) scheduled for the 17th shuttle mission to the International Space Station (ISS). Astronaut Stephen K. Robinson (partially obscured), mission specialist, joined Noguchi for the simulation, conducted in the Neutral Buoyancy Laboratory (NBL) near the Johnson Space Center (JSC). Noguchi represents Japans National Space Development Agency (NASDA).

ISS009-E-19838 (24 August 2004) --- Astronaut Edward M. (Mike) Fincke, Expedition 9 NASA ISS science officer and flight engineer, performs maintenance on an Extravehicular Mobility Unit (EMU) spacesuit in the Quest airlock of the International Space Station (ISS).

ISS040-E-013826 (17 June 2014) --- This is the Orlan spacesuit of Russian cosmonaut Alexander Skvortsov, Expedition 40 flight engineer. Skvortsov and fellow cosmonaut Oleg Artemyev readied their Russian Orlan suits early on June 17 in preparation for a scheduled spacewalk on June 19.

ISS012-E-15666 (24 Jan. 2006) --- An old Russian Orlan spacesuit is photographed in the Unity node of the International Space Station, which will be released by hand from the space station during a spacewalk Feb. 3, 2006. Outfitted with a special radio transmitter and other gear, the spacesuit comprises a Russian experiment called SuitSat. It will fly free from the station as a satellite in orbit for several weeks of scientific research and radio tracking, including communications by amateur radio operators. Eventually, it will enter the atmosphere and be destroyed.

ISS025-E-017111 (22 Nov. 2010)--- NASA astronauts Shannon Walker, Expedition 25 flight engineer, and Doug Wheelock, Expedition 25 commander; have donned their Sokol (Russian word for 'Falcon') pressure suits and are pictured in the Russian MRM-1 module aboard the Earth-orbiting International Space Station. They, along with Russian cosmonaut Fyodor Yurchikhin, flight engineer, ingressed the docked Soyuz capsule to conduct pressurization and leak checks on their suits.

ISS038-E-004128 (18 Nov. 2013) --- NASA astronaut Michael Hopkins, Expedition 38 flight engineer, participates in Extravehicular Mobility Unit (EMU) spacesuit tests and repairs in the Quest airlock of the International Space Station.

ISS017-E-019022 (14 Oct. 2008) --- Russian Federal Space Agency cosmonaut Yury Lonchakov, Expedition 18 flight engineer, ingresses the Earth-facing port of the International Space Station's Zarya module after arriving onboard the Soyuz TMA-13 spacecraft with NASA astronaut Michael Fincke, commander, and American spaceflight participant Richard Garriott (both out of frame). Hatches between the two spacecraft were opened at 4:55 a.m. (CDT).

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. -- In the White Room of Launch Pad 39A at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida, the Closeout Crew helps STS-134 Pilot Greg H. Johnson put on the parachute for his launch-and-entry suit before he boards space shuttle Endeavour during the Terminal Countdown Demonstration Test (TCDT). Part of TCDT includes practicing the final hours of a real launch day when astronauts put on their launch-and-entry suits, ride to the pad in the Astrovan and strap into the shuttle.Endeavour's six crew members are targeted to launch April 19 at 7:48 p.m. EDT. They will deliver the Express Logistics Carrier-3, Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer-2 (AMS), a high-pressure gas tank, additional spare parts for the Dextre robotic helper and micrometeoroid debris shields to the International Space Station. This will be the final spaceflight for Endeavour.

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. - On Launch Pad 39A at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida, STS-127 Mission Specialists Tim Kopra, Dave Wolf and Tom Marshburn are seated inside space shuttle Endeavour. The astronauts are taking part in a simulated launch countdown, which concludes the terminal countdown demonstration test. Endeavour's STS-127 mission is the final of three flights dedicated to the assembly of the Japanese Kibo laboratory complex on the International Space Station. Endeavour's launch is scheduled for June 13 at 7:17 a.m. EDT.

The Soyuz spacecraft with Skvortsov, Expedition 39 Flight Engineer Steve Swanson of NASA and Flight Engineer Oleg Artemyev of Roscosmos is scheduled to launch at 3:17 a.m. Kazakhstan Time on Wednesday, March 26.

Johnson goes through a checklist for the simulated launch countdown, which is the culmination of the terminal countdown demonstration test, or TCDT. The TCDT provides astronauts and ground crews with an opportunity to participate in various countdown activities, including equipment familiarization and emergency egress training. Endeavour is targeted to launch at 2:28 a.m. EDT March 11 on the 16-day STS-123 mission to the International Space Station. Endeavour and its crew will deliver the first section of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency's Kibo laboratory and the Canadian Space Agency's two-armed robotic system, Dextre.

ISS006-E-33075 (24 February 2003) --- Astronauts Kenneth D. Bowersox (right) and Donald R. Pettit, Expedition Six mission commander and NASA ISS science officer, respectively, participate in a scheduled extravehicular activity (EVA) development test objective (DTO) in the Quest Airlock on the International Space Station (ISS). The test demonstrated the ability of two crewmembers to safely get into the American Extravehicular Mobility Unit (EMU) spacesuit without the assistance of a third crewmember; that ability is a prerequisite to sending smaller crews to ISS while the space shuttle fleet remains grounded during the investigation of the Columbia accident. Bowersox and Pettit helped each other into their EMU spacesuits, donned jet backpacks called Simplified Aid for EVA Rescue (SAFER), set up the necessary equipment for a pre-breathe of oxygen to purge nitrogen from their bloodstreams, and then got out of the spacesuits.

ISS003-E-6742 (October 2001) --- Cosmonaut Mikhail Tyurin, Expedition Three flight engineer, wearing a Russian Sokol suit, is seated in the Soyuz spacecraft that is docked to the International Space Station (ISS). This Soyuz return vehicle will be moved from the Earth-facing port of the Zarya module for the linkup to the new Pirs Docking Compartment. The move of the Soyuz will mark the first time the new Pirs, which arrived at the station September 17, 2001, will serve as a docking port. The Soyuz will be shifted to prepare for the arrival of a new Soyuz return craft, to be launched October 21, 2001 from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan. ISS035-E-010577 (29 March 2013) --- When there is a reunion taking place, one can almost always anticipate there will be multiple cameras present. There is no exception to that rule in this scene aboard the International Space Station in the Poisk or Mini-Research Module 2 (MRM2), as the two crew components for Expedition 35 begin to reunite in Earth orbit. The reunion took place soon after the Soyuz TMA-08M docked with the orbital outpost. CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. - On Launch Pad 39A at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida, STS-119 Mission Specialists John Phillips, Koichi Wakata and Richard Arnold are seated in space shuttle Discovery for a simulated launch countdown as part of the prelaunch preparation known as Terminal Countdown Demonstration Test. The TCDT also includes equipment familiarization. Discovery is targeted to launch on the STS-119 mission Feb. 12. During the 14-day mission, the crew will install the S6 truss segment and solar arrays to the starboard side of the International Space Station, completing the station's truss, or backbone.

ISS036-E-019886 (16 July 2013) --- European Space Agency astronaut Luca Parmitano, Expedition 36 flight engineer, attired in an Extravehicular Mobility Unit (EMU) spacesuit, is pictured in the International Space Stations Quest airlock as the July 16 spacewalk draws to a close. A little more than one hour into the spacewalk, Parmitano reported water floating behind his head inside his helmet. The water was not an immediate health hazard for Parmitano, but Mission Control decided to end the spacewalk early.

ISS015-E-31325 (27 Sept. 2007) --- Attired in a Russian Sokol launch and entry suit, cosmonaut Fyodor N. Yurchikhin, Expedition 15 commander representing Russia's Federal Space Agency, is seated in the Soyuz TMA-10 spacecraft docked to the International Space Station. The Expedition 15 crew undocked the Soyuz spacecraft from the nadir port of the Zarya module at 2:20 p.m. (CDT) and flew a short distance to the aft port of the Zvezda Service Module. Redocking occurred at 2:45 p.m. (CDT). The move was in preparation for the arrival of the new Soyuz TMA-11 capsule on Oct. 12, carrying the Expedition 16 crew and a Malaysian spaceflight participant.

KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, FLA. -- Inside space shuttle Endeavour, STS-123 Mission Specialist Robert L. Behnken goes through a checklist for the simulated launch countdown, which is the culmination of the terminal countdown demonstration test, or TCDT. The TCDT provides astronauts and ground crews with an opportunity to participate in various countdown activities, including equipment familiarization and emergency egress training. Endeavour is targeted to launch at 2:28 a.m. EDT March 11 on the 16-day STS-123 mission to the International Space Station. Endeavour and its crew will deliver the first section of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency's Kibo laboratory and the Canadian Space Agency's two-armed robotic system, Dextre.
