Destroyed image of the playwright Herman Heijermans, 1940 - 1964 documentary photographs Mendes da Costa made the playwright Heijermans a portrait bust who, placed in the Vondelpark, was unveiled by Alderman Wibaut on November 22, 1929. Then the image was destroyed in such a way that it had to be replaced. The new version of the image was placed in the Leidsebosje. In the first years of the occupation it was badly damaged, on which the municipality had the statue stored. A student of Mendes da Costa, Frank de Miranda was instructed to restore the image. That is not possible and the Miranda asked if he could keep the image and took it with him to Israel (1948-1953). After his return, Hildo Krop made a (failed) attempt to restore the image. In the end, Tetterode's Steenhouwers company did succeed in restoring the statue and on 1 June 1964 (the 100th birthday of Heijermans) Krop unveiled the image.
