The Silent Woman -- Mrs. Odette Marie Celina Sansom, G.C., M.B.E. photographed to-day, Tuesday, while on holiday in Hampshire. The award of the George Cross to a British woman who refused to betray her comrades under Nazi torture was announced to-day, Tuesday,. sent into occupied France, Mrs. Odette Marie Celina Sansom, MBE, was arrested by the Gestapo. The Germans needed information about two officers, but despite torture inflicted with a hot iron and the removal of all her toe nails, Mrs.Sansom kept silent. August 20, 1946.

Lady Derby Wounded When Two Butlers Are Shot Dead -- Lady Derby who was wounded in the neck during Thursday's shooting at her home32-year-old Lady Derby is now in Hospital with a bullet wound in her neck. She is not seriously injured and will not have to undergo an operation.She was dining alone on Thursday night at her home, Knowsley hall, Lancashire. It is alleged that harold Winstanley, A 19-year-old footman, entered the room and shot her with a Sten gun. When the butler, Walter Stallard and then the under-butler, Douglas Stewart, Rushed to assist Lady Derby, Winstanley is said to have shot them both dead.Yesterday Winstanlev was charged with the murder of both Stallard and Stewart.
