U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Joseph Gerczak (WPC 1126) begins towing the disabled commercial fishing vessel (CFV) Lucky TJ over 200 nautical miles off of Oahu on January 5, 2023. CFV Lucky TJ, a 72-foot vessel with ten mariners aboard, was towed by Joseph Gerczak back to Honolulu for approximately 35 hours.CFV Lucky TJ arrived safely back in Honolulu after sunset on January 6, 2023.

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. -- The left spent booster from space shuttle Discovery's final launch is seen bobbing in the Atlantic Ocean as air is pumped into it to lift it out of the water so it can float horizontally for towing back to Port Canaveral, Florida by Freedom Star, one of NASA's solid rocket booster retrieval ships.The shuttles two solid rocket booster casings and associated flight hardware are recovered in the Atlantic Ocean after every launch by Liberty Star and Freedom Star. The boosters impact the Atlantic about seven minutes after liftoff and the retrieval ships are stationed about 10 miles from the impact area at the time of splashdown. After the spent segments are processed, they will be transported to Utah, where they will be refurbished and stored, if needed.

The prime recovery ship, USS Ticonderoga, is in the background. A recovery helicopter hovers overhead. The Apollo 16 crew, astronauts John W. Young, Thomas K. Mattingly II, and Charles M. Duke Jr., were picked up by helicopter and flown to the deck of the ship. The splashdown occurred at 290 37 06 ground elapsed time, 1 45 06 p.m. (CST), Thursday, April 27, 1972, at coordinates of 00 45.2 degrees south latitude and 156 11.4 degrees west longitude, a point approximately 215 miles southeast of Christmas Island. A team of Earth Landing System swimmers assisted with the recovery operations.
