Norblin's charming miniature etchings, representing mostly male heads, street sellers, and vagabonds, reflect both in subject and technique the profound influence of Rembrandt's prints. Norblin was also drawn to Polish subjects, capturing the unfamiliar, exotic world around him in his depictions of men with colossal fur hats and curled moustaches, Cossacks, and Polish historical figures.

Courtesan for the Third Month. Artist: Kaigetsudo Dohan (active 1710-16). Culture: Japan. Dimensions: 22 1/4 x 12 in. (56.5 x 30.5 cm). Date: ca. 1714.Several artists with the surname Kaigetsudo were pupils of Kaigetsudo Ando, a painter who worked in the early 18th century. Except for the fact that Ando was linked to a scandal involving an actor and a woman of the shogun's household and was exiled from Edo in March 1714, little is known about him or his followers. Because of this incident and of the decline in popularity of the extra-large-size format (kakemono-e) by around 1718, Kaigetsudo-school prints are generally dated about 1715.Most of the school's works are of a single, standing courtesan dressed in voluminous robes with bold designs. Like other early woodblock prints, they were printed in ink alone (sumizuri-e), with colors occasionally added by hand. Among the twelve known print designs by Dohan, this one survives only in this impressions. Especially characteristic of Kaigets
