Soldiers with the 461st Engineer Company, 367th Engineer Battalion, 372nd Engineer Brigade, 416th Theater Engineer Command, work on a troop project Oct. 20, 2022, to build office buildings at Logistical Support Area Liberty on North Post at Fort McCoy, Wis. The 461st, an Army Reserve unit, is among many Army engineer units to work on the troop project in 2022 at Fort McCoy. Fort McCoy Troop Projects Coordinator Larry Morrow said having troop projects completed helps engineer units get the training they need and in turn the installation receives base and quality of life improvements through the completion of the projects.

Troops are located outside the first of several four-story transient training troops barracks July 11, 2022, at Fort McCoy, Wis. The new barracks was officially opened for use in May 2022 by the Fort McCoy Directorate of Public Works and the first troops to stay in it started in early June 2022. A $20.6 million contract was awarded to L.S. Black Constructors, Inc., in September 2019 to build the barracks, according to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Resident Office at Fort McCoy which managed the project. The barracks, which is built in the 1600 block on the Fort McCoy cantonment area, is different than traditional barracks that are located throughout the installation. This new building is four stories and is able to house 400 people in approximately 60,000 square feet.

A new $7.03 million shipping, receiving, and mail freight facility is shown June 29, 2022, at Fort McCoy, Wis. The contract for the project called for the construction of a pre-engineered metal building that has an estimated 19,500 square feet of space. Projects like this align with Fort McCoys long-range strategic planning objectives, including to sustain and modernize Fort McCoys cantonment, range complex, strategic mobility, physical security, quality of life, and information technology infrastructure. This project is managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

The Equipment Park is an outdoor display of historic and present-day equipment representative of the types used on the installation. The design of the park allows for display of 70 pieces of equipment, ranging from helicopters and howitzers to trucks and trailers. An aircrew with the Wisconsin National Guards 1st Battalion, 147th Aviation Regiment operates a UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter May 18, 2022, at Fort McCoy, Wis. Members of the unit regularly complete training operations at Fort McCoy and the unit also supports numerous training events at the installation each year. According to the Army fact sheet for the Black Hawk, its mission is to provide air assault, general support, aeromedical evacuation, command and control, and special operations support to combat, stability, and support operations. The UH-60 also is the Armys utility tactical transport helicopter. The versatile helicopter has enhanced the overall mobility of the Army due to dramatic improvements in troop capacity and cargo lift capability over the years as well.

The construction area for a future transient training brigade headquarters in the 1600 block on the cantonment area is shown Sept. 16, 2022, at Fort McCoy, Wis. A contract, totaling $11,964,432.87, was awarded June 9, 2022, to L.S. Black Constructors to build the fiscal year 2022 Transient Training Brigade Headquarters project at Fort McCoy. Construction operations began in August 2022. Location of construction is just across the street from where the same contractor has been building two new transient training troop barracks buildings in the same block. According to the Army Corps of Engineers, which is managing the project, the brigade headquarters project is based on the denser, more consolidated footprints of Fort McCoys Troop Housing Area Development Plan which states fewer, multiple story buildings allow facilities/functions to be sited closer together, allowing for a more walkable training environment, as well as saving money on utilities. Troops are located outside the first of several four-story transient training troops barracks July 11, 2022, at Fort McCoy, Wis. The new barracks was officially opened for use in May 2022 by the Fort McCoy Directorate of Public Works and the first troops to stay in it started in early June 2022. A $20.6 million contract was awarded to L.S. Black Constructors, Inc., in September 2019 to build the barracks, according to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Resident Office at Fort McCoy which managed the project. The barracks, which is built in the 1600 block on the Fort McCoy cantonment area, is different than traditional barracks that are located throughout the installation. This new building is four stories and is able to house 400 people in approximately 60,000 square feet.

Army Signal Corps troops have an area of Fort McCoy, Wis., set up Aug. 4, 2022, to support communications for the 86th Training Division Combat Support Training Exercise 86-22-02 and for exercise Grecian Firebolt 2022. Grecian Firebolt is an annual training exercise that allows signal units to keep pace with communication transformations, and link communication support to identified U. S. Army Reserve Command-sponsored exercises.

Completed work on a troop project is shown June 21, 2022, to build office buildings at Logistical Support Area Liberty on North Post at Fort McCoy, Wis. Many Army engineer units have worked on the troop project in 2022 at Fort McCoy. Fort McCoy Troop Projects Coordinator Larry Morrow said having troop projects completed helps engineer units get the training they need and in turn the installation receives base and quality of life improvements through the completion of the projects.

Work completed by Soldiers with the Army Reserve's 389th Engineer Company of Des Moines, Iowa, at a troop project are shown June 21, 2022, at Camp Courage on South Post at Fort McCoy, Wis. The company worked on several projects to improve the camp during their 2022 annual training, including putting new metal siding on numerous buildings. Training operations for Wisconsin National Guards 1st Battalion, 147th Aviation Regiment are shown June 9, 2022, at Sparta-Fort McCoy Airport at Fort McCoy, Wis. During June 2022, the unit held its annual training at Fort McCoy and centered their operations with multiple UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters at the airport.

The installations flagpole and garrison headquarters area is shown covered in snow Jan. 10, 2024, at Fort McCoy, Wis. Between Jan. 9-13, 2024, at Fort McCoy, the installation received more than 18 inches of snow over that span, plus the snowfall was followed by below-zero temperatures. The snowy weather also caused the installation to go to minimal staffing on Jan. 9 and 12 as driving conditions in the local areas were considered less than favorable.

Exercise operations are shown Aug. 12, 2022, at Fort McCoy, Wis., for the 86th Training Division's Combat Support Training Exercise (CSTX) 86-22-02. The exercise took place in August 2022 at Fort McCoy at various locations throughout the installation. Around 4,000 service members participated in the exercise. The CSTX is a joint training event executed in a live, virtual, and constructive integrated training environment where service members test their tactical and technical skills.

Work completed by Soldiers with the Army Reserve's 389th Engineer Company of Des Moines, Iowa, at a troop project are shown June 21, 2022, at Camp Courage on South Post at Fort McCoy, Wis. The company worked on several projects to improve the camp during their 2022 annual training, including putting new metal siding on numerous buildings. Troop projects are coordinated by the Fort McCoy Directorate of Public Works and help improve the installation's infrastructure while at the same time providing training for Army engineer units.

Completed work on a troop project is shown Aug. 4, 2022, to build office buildings at Logistical Support Area Liberty on North Post at Fort McCoy, Wis. Many Army engineer units have worked on the troop project in 2022 at Fort McCoy. Fort McCoy Troop Projects Coordinator Larry Morrow said having troop projects completed helps engineer units get the training they need and in turn the installation receives base and quality of life improvements through the completion of the projects.

Training operations are shown April 2, 2022, at Fort McCoy, Wis. The operations shown only feature a small portion of hundreds of troops completing weekend training at the installation in early April 2022. Fort McCoys motto is to be the Total Force Training Center. Located in the heart of the upper Midwest, Fort McCoy is the only U.S. Army installation in Wisconsin. The installation has provided support and facilities for the field and classroom training of more than 100,000 military personnel from all services nearly every year since 1984.

The Equipment Park is an outdoor display of historic and present-day equipment representative of the types used on the installation. The design of the park allows for display of 70 pieces of equipment, ranging from helicopters and howitzers to trucks and trailers. The Commemorative Area also consists of five World War II-era buildings set aside to help tell Fort McCoys unique story. These facilities are representative of the types found in the cantonment area when it was constructed in 1942.
