The Joint Armed Forces Color Guard and drummers from The U.S. Navy Band spent the day at the NFL Experience February 10, 2024 in Las Vegas. While at the NFL Experience the team got one on one time with the Lombardi Trophy, tested their quarterback skills, and met NFL stars Rob Gronkowski, former tight end for the New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Aidan Hutchinson, a defensive end for the Detroit Lions. The JAFCG and drummers also stopped by the U.S. Air Force booth to test out their virtual reality experience. They finished their afternoon at the NFL Experience with a stop at the USO booth to check out their gaming truck and sign a USO flag that will be sent to Service Members overseas.

The ceremony, which was administered by a Shinto priest before beginning construction, expresses wishes for safety and success during construction. For more than 75 years, Commander, Fleet Activities Yokosuka has provided, maintained, and operated base facilities and services in support of the U.S. 7th Fleet's forward-deployed naval forces, tenant commands, and thousands of military and civilian personnel and their families.

Members of the 8th Infantry Association watch as fellow association member Colonel Nick Johnson retires from the Illinois Army National Guard. Col. Johnson commanded the 1st Battalion, 178th Infantry Regiment based in Chicago's General Richard Jones Armory. The 1/178th Infantry holds the lineage to the famous all African-American "Fighting" 8th Infantry. Johnson would go on to brigade command with the 65th Troop Command. Col. Craig Holan, who commanded the 404th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade, retired after nearly 40 years of service with Col. Johnson, who served for 32 years. The dual retirement ceremony was held on May 14 at the Illinois Military Academy on Camp Lincoln in Springfield, Illinois.
