Adell Mackenzie, 18, a junior technician in the pathology section of Crown-street Women's Hospital, hands some meat to hungry toads which have just arrived from South Africa. Crown-Street Women's Hospital has imported 200 South African toads as an aid to diagnosing pregnancy two weeks after conception. When injected with specimens taken from pregnant women, the toads lay eggs with-in a few hours. This test diagnoses pregnancy far sooner than any other method. Main problem since the toads arrived on Friday has been to deter them from eat-in their own eggs. If this happened the pregnancy tests would be ruined. March 23, 1947.
