India: In Mumbai two devotees of the Hindu goddess Yellamma pose with images of her on their heads. The person on the right is a so-called hijra (a eunuch, transsexual or transvestite), Yellamma being regarded as one of the patron goddesses of hijras. Devotees carrying her images are called jogtis or jogammas (females), or jogtas / jogappas respectively (males, transsexuals). Yellamma's main temple is situated in Saundatti in the Indian state of Karnataka and is the focus of several annual religious fairs which draw hundreds of thousands of pilgrims.
