UF-2G Plane Readied for Bombing Mission Target "Iceberg". At the U.S. Coast Guard Air Detachment, Argentia, Newfoundland, a crew gingerly affixes two 1,000 lb. general purpose conventional type bombs to the underwings of a UF-20 plane assigned to conduct aerial iceberg destruction tests. The target is an iceberg 150 ft. high above water, 300 foot wide, weighting about 1,000,000 tons. It is located 160 miles northeast of Argentia, Newfoundland, or 60 miles northeast of Cape Bonavista in international waters. The crew assisting here includes (l to r): William E. Coast Guard Helicopter to the Rescue. Demonstrating the value of the heliocopter helicopter as a sea rescue craft, a Coast Guard pilot takes off from the surface of the sea and rises vertically after having picked up a "shipwreck victim". Safely strapped in a litter beside the cabin, the patient rides horizontally and without tipping, as the heliocopter sets its course for land.

Pathfinder, NASA's solar-powered, remotely-piloted aircraft is shown while it was conducting a series of science flights to highlight the aircraft's science capabilities while collecting imagery of forest and coastal zone ecosystems on Kauai, Hawaii.The flights also tested two new scientific instruments, a high-spectral-resolution Digital Array Scanned Interferometer (DASI) and a high-spatial-resolution Airborne Real-Time Imaging System (ARTIS). One of the few practicable delta-wing projects is this German Fieseler F-3 'Wespe' (Wasp) - very advanced for its day, but never developed into a fighting machine. Date: 1936

Coast Guard Helicopters Will Land on Water. This might have been a crash, but wasn't. A Coast Guard helicopter is deliberately landed in the sea, where no land plane should be, to test the newly developed Emergency Flotation Gear. The helicopters wheels used for landing on solid ground are surrounded by large rubber floats which the pilot inflates at will. They support the entire weight of the plane.
