This photo dates to the early 1920s. Its caption reads: The "Akron" and the "Los Angeles" in Flight. At the left is the great dirigible Akron, built in American yards as a fighting ship for the Navy; 785 feet long, 132 feet in diameter. Following her is the Los Angeles, 656 feet long, 90 feet in diameter. The photograph was taken as the giant airships sailed over Philadelphia.

Fine Model of the ill-fated British airship R101, which crashed at Beauvais, France, in October 1930, with the loss of 48 lives. The ship was on her maiden voyage to India. This miniature is the work of Mr. G. C. Marshall, a dentist, of Glen Iris, and has been bought for £45 for the Technological section of the Museum. The Curator of the section, Mr. Edgar H. Penrose, is shown today with the 5 ½ foot model. August 08, 1938.
