The Van Briggles and some other designers produced models from which molds were made, and the vases were then slip-cast in multiple forms. They were particularly noteworthy for their glazes in satiny soft textures in unusual colors, sometimes one or more combine on a single piece. Like many American artists, Artus Van Briggle had traveled to and studied in Paris in the late 1890s and was much influenced by not only the artistic ceramics he saw there, but much of the French art that was on exhibition. It is likely that this skull and crossbones were modeled by Ignaz Günther (1725-1775), who created a porcelain crucifix for the Cecilia Chapel in the Munich Residenz that slightly predates the Bustelli version. These two objects, intended to form one compositional unit, reflect the increasingly ambitious and important role of porcelain in the production of sculpture in the middle decades of the eighteenth century. While they can only be attributed to Günther, the skull and crossbones almost certainly were modeled by either Günther or possibly by his fellow sculptor and teacher Johann Baptist Straub (1704-1784), two of the most prominent sculptors working in Munich in the mid-eighteenth A retro wall hanging of a woman with short hair and a gold necklaceTop hat ca. 1885 Melton. A text on the rectangle. The fish (usually AYU) are attracted by the fire, the leashed cormorants are prevented by swallowing the fish with an iron ring around the neck. This image and text probably refer to the no-theater piece Ukai (De Aalscholver Visser), in which two monks meet an old cormorant fisherman at the river Isawa, who turns out to be a spirit. (26.67 × 22.86 × 18.42 cm) (without base), Bronze, gold, Japan, 17th-19th century, This head was once part of a monumental bronze sculpture of a group of four guardian figures known collectively as the Caturmahārāja, or Four Heavenly Kings. Known in Japanese as Shitennō, they guard the four cardinal directions. These protective deities are believed to safeguard the world and Buddhist teachings from evil, and are usually represented as muscular warriors wearing elaborate suits of armor and carrying weapons and other objects. Although each of the guardians is depicted with unique implements and appearances, this figures specific identity is unknown, since only the head remains.front view spooky halloween toysHexe spitzer Hut isoliert Violet pointed conical witch hat isolated Copyright: xZoonar.com/GabrielaxBertolinix 22172866Bunraku Puppet Head for Young Male Role 19th century Japan.
