British General Henry Proctor and his Indian allies led by Tecumseh, attacked Fort Stephenson after failing to capture Ft. Meigs. Procter lost 96 of his 1,400 force in repeated assaults on the fort's 160 defenders, armed only with rifles and one cannon. When the attack failed, the British and Indians retreated to Canada. The Siege of Louisburg took place in 1745 when a New England colonial force aided by a British fleet captured Louisburg, the capital of the French province of éle-Royale (present-day Cape Breton Island) during the War of the Austrian Succession, known as King George's War in the British colonies. Pepperell is widely remembered for organizing, financing, and leading the 1745 expedition that captured the French garrison at Fortress Louisburg during King George's War. During his day Pepperrell was called "the hero of Louisburg," a victory celebrated in the name of Louisburg Square in Boston's Beacon Hill neighborhood. .

American Revolution, Saratoga Campaign, Battle of Bennington, August 16, 1777. Brig. Gen. John Stark of the New Hampshire Militia defeated a British force of 2,000. New England militia, defeated the 800 British foragers made up of Hessians, local loyalists and Indians, plus 200 reinforcements. The British lost 1000 fighters and gained no provisions, weakening it before the Battle of Saratoga. In spite of the battle's name, it took place in Walloomsac, New York, because the British were blocked from their target, Bennington, Vermont (BSLOC_2019_3_141)
