The caption for this illustrations dating to around 1900 reads: Final Assault and Massacre at Missolonghi. This occurred in 1826, during the Greek war of independence. In this 1915 illustration, Roger Guiscard is shown landing in Sicily. The younger brother of Robert Guiscard, Duke of Apulia, Roger overthew the Arabs in control of Sicily in a war that lasted from 1061 to 1090, and took possession of the island. He then became Count of Sicily.
