Fred Galiana won the European featherweight title on November 3, 1955 at the Palais des Sports in Paris against the French continental champion Ray Famechon, winning by abandonment in the seventh round. Galiana gave such a spectacle that the French nicknamed him Le toreador du ring.

"The Soviet Government appears deliberately to prevent intercourse between the Russian people and the rest of the world", said Mr. Attlee, British Prime Minister, when he addressed the Trades Union Conference at Brighton on October 24th last. Referring to "The Russian Tragedy", he added that the Russians were subjected to "fantastic misrepresentations" about other nations. Hart must indeed have had iron in his heart and body to withstand the terrific two-handed punishment which he absorbed from the Battersea boy in every round. Then Cockell won the light-heavy-weight title by knocking out the game Mark Hart, of Croydon, in the fourteenth round.
