Ladies' dress reform meeting at Freeman Place Chapel, Boston, in 1874. Two women are presenting samples of comfortable women's undergarments to a female audience at a Dress Reform Convention. Fashion at the time, featured large crinolines, full heavy skirts, tiny waists laced into corsets, and cumbersome bustles. Undergarments such as those on display had some success since they could be worn+ without showing. But the great majority of urban women continued to wear constricting corsets in public until the early 20th century  (BSLOC_2019_8_94)

A selection of mannequins from the show, "Chu Chin Chow" which opened at His Majesty's Theatre in 1916 and ran for five years and more than 2,300 performances.
