Spain. Journey of the Spanish royal family to the Cantabrian coast. King Alfonso XII (1857-1885), Queen Maria Cristina (1858-1929) and the Infantas Paz and Eulalia. On September 14, 1881, the queen and the infantas embarked from Comillas to Suances beach. As there was a distance of approximately two kilometres between the beach and the town of Suances, two ox carts were prepared, as there were no other types of vehicles in the area, for the transportation of the queen, the infantas and servants. Visit of H.M.S. Gorgon to the Zambesi River: the Brig, Hetty Ellen discharging sections of Dr. David Livingstone's new steamer, the Lady Nyassa into the Pioneer to take up the Zambesi River. Livingstone entirely funded the construction of the steamer to aid his explorations in Africa. It was brought, in pieces, to the Zambesi. 1862

The floundering British steam ship President, as last seen by from the packet ship Orpheus, by Captain Cole. She was caught in a terrific gale on March 12, 1841, between Nantucket Shoals and Georges Bank. Never seen again, she was presumed sunk with 136 passengers and crew along with an extensive cargo. It was a great disaster, with the deathwatch stretching out for months (BSLOC_2019_7_115)
