The departure of the twelve Dutch merchant ships from the port of Portsmouth, after the lifting of the embargo, June 2, 1833. The British embargo was brought about November 1832 to move the Dutch people to transfer the Antwerp Citadel to Belgium. All Dutch ships were placed on the chain in British ports. First plate in a series of three. On one of the department stores to the right can be read 'Van den Bergh & Son'. At the bottom of the margin the names of the ships.
