USS Vesuvius - Dynamite gun cruiser 1891

A Signal Corps tug called "Langley" at the Aviation Experiment Station in Hampton, Virginia. The photograph was taken on September 2, 1917. The tug was used for military activities during World War One. This is image number 286 in the series with registration number 23439.

Coast Guard in Alaska. This Coast Guard Port Security fireboat at Ketchikan, Alaska, demonstrates its technique of quenching blazes of this type. Wharf fires are a serious menace to the war effort and this Coast Guard outfit has had actual experience fighting them in Alaska. The chemical warfare department of the Coast Guard created the realistic effect by setting off smoke pots.

On 6 January 1897 the Royal Indian Marine troopship RIMS Warren Hastings left Cape Town (South Africa) bound for Mauritius. On the 14 January 1897, eight miles off course and traveling at a speed of 12.5 knots, in pitch dark, pouring rain and thick fog, ran straight into the rocks on the coastline of R鵮ion, (Indian Ocean). Carrying 993 passengers, only resulted in two deaths. Date: 14 January 1897

The caption on this 1903 image reads: Dahabieh descending the Nile. It appeared in the book History of Egypt by French Egyptologist Gaston Maspero. A dahabieh is a long light-draft houseboat used on the Nile that is lateen-rigged and is often propelled wholly or partly by engines.

The shark on the test trip, 1956-08-02.Malmö shipbuilding historical association has received the album of a son of Nils Holmström.Peter Skanze from the association has in contacts with the Historical Museum's manager Hans-Lennart Ohlsson expressed that the gift is aimed at the Maritime History Museum, while in the donation letter a "desire to the album ends up at any museum with a focus on our marine heritage".At sea-historical, there is already an extensive collection of photographs from Kockum's MV.Since the images show the warships fit the album better in Marine Museum Karlskrona's gathering area and was therefore added to Marine Museum's collections.

The enormous floating dock at the Mitsubishi Shipbuilding Yard at Kobe, Japan. The liner Hakozaki Maru SS (pictured being finished in the dock) was taken over by the Japanese government during the Second World War for service as a transport. On March 19th, 1945, when in the Yellow Sea, she was torpedoed and sunk by the U.S. submarine USS Balao. Date: 1922
